Tip Of The Day

Buying makeup for yourself can be confusing, whether it's from a department store or drug store.  But wondering how long you keep it can be another.  Well here's a tip... some cosmetics companies will actually illustrate on the back of the packaging how long they're suggestion the products shelf life is. In the photo below Maybelline is saying the shelf life for this mascara is 6 months!

Here's a list of how long to keep certain beauty products:

  • Mascara*: 3-6 months
  • Eyeliner* (Liquid & gel):   3 months
  • Foundation (Liquid): 6-12 months
  • Concealer:  6-12 months
  • Lip Gloss:   1 year
  • Eyeliner (Pencils):   2 years
  • Powder Products (eyeshadow, blush, foundation):  2 years
  • Lipstick:   2 years
  • Nail Polish:  2 years

*If not used everyday, stop continuation of use (and replace) at 6 months!  Extended use of expired products, especially around the eyes can cause irritation and infections.

Here's a few more examples. Sometimes the icon is small and can be hard to see. Or a bit larger and extremely visible.

Bronzer in "Laguna" by NARS.  24M = 24 Months

Foaming face cleanser by Caudalie.  18M = 18 Months

Hillary Clinton Rally!

On Monday, June 27 I spent the entire day working on an amazing project... the Hillary Clinton rally!  Which took place in Cincinnati, OH at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

I was a part of the NBC news crew as the key makeup artist for several news correspondents which aired live on MSNBC; Andrea Mitchell, Kristen Welker and Amy Chozick.

Working with NBC over the past three years has been a huge blessing to my career.  Besides bridal, working on the sets of film, video and television projects is actually where I started my career as a makeup artist.  I started out as an assistant, working along side of another artist (key artist) who was more experienced than I and over the course of time I began to study, learn and grow my experience level in this arena to go from assistant to the key artist.

Below are a few behind the scene photos, enjoy!

A key makeup artist is a department head that is responsible for planning the makeup designs for all leading and supporting cast.

Photoshoot Throwback

I had a wonderful time working on set for JulyMichael's CD cover and marketing promo materials back in March 2012.  Where she and her management team traveled to Cincinnati to shoot with photographer Annette Navarro. Kelsey Wing was the fashion stylist and I did makeup.  It was truly a fun shoot. And below is a video from behind the scenes of this fun filled day.

Radio Interview!

This past Sunday I had to awesome opportunity to be a guest on "Community Focus".  A special segment that airs on ROU 92.1 and HOT 102.9 in Dayton, Ohio (my hometown) with Faith Daniels.

Community Focus highlights a special guest each week from the Dayton, Ohio area to discuss what the individual or business does but to get the community involved by supporting them.

I had the awesome pleasure to discuss my life as a makeup artist.  A little bit on how I got started and so much more.

Below is an audio clip from the show. Enjoy!

Yay... It's finally out and I can now share the news.  The restraints have been lifted and the proof is in the the pudding, LOL!  This past summer I had the opportunity to work on a 4-day shoot for Cintas, the worlds largest uniform supplier.  Even though I've worked on othet projects for Cintas in the past, this was my 2nd time working on their catalogs shoots. And my first time as the lead artist!  I blogged briefly about this back in September, but I couldn't go into detail.  Below are a few images from the catalog That I worked on, along with some behind the scene photos of it's coordinating image for you to see what went on behind the scenes.

CBS Sports Shoot With Jim Brown!

Yesterday I had an amazing opportunity to work with legendary football player, activist & Jim Brown for a highlight for the NFL "Thursday Night Football" and CBS Sports.  The shoot was taken place at Miami University and will be seen on television tonight during the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns game.  And to give you a glimpse of what went on to put this promo together, I'm sharing a few behind the scene photos that I'm sure you'll enjoy!  Also be sure to follow #TNF on all social media outlets.

TV Commercial!

Last month I had the pleasure of working on set for a television commercial produced and directed by Tony Pierce of Pierce Media Inc. for Center for Closing the Health Gap.  Which has already started airing on various television channels and will end by Thanksgiving.

Center for Closing the Health Gap is a non-profit organization, founded in 2004, committed to raising awareness about and eliminating racial and health disparities across Greater Cincinnati.

I've shared below the commercial along with a few photos from what was involved to make it all happen. Enjoy!
